Maro's snowed new year's pie

This one is a keeper... most of the times we feel too sorry to cut it!

My aunt Maro makes it for the new year but you can bake it and enjoy it through out the winter :)

Maro's snowed new year's pie

ingredients
  • 5 eggs
  • 300 gr sugar
  • 250 ml milk
  • 450 gr all purpose flour
  • 1 tea spoon backing powder
  • zest from one lemon
  • zest from one orange
  • 250 gr butter
  • powder sugar
  • 100 gr chocolate
instructions
  1. Beat the egg whites with half the sugar until stiff
  2. Melt the butter (don't cook it)
  3. Beat the melted butter with the other half of the sugar
  4. Add egg yolks
  5. Mix the flour with the baking powder and add it to the mix
  6. Add the zest to the mix
  7. Gently fold the mix with the egg whites
  8. Butter and flour the backing form
  9. Pour the mix into the form (24cm - ring form)
  10. Bake at 160C for about 1 hour and 20 minutes. After the first hour passes check regularly with a knife not to over-bake it.
  11. Melt the chocolate and draw the decoration on baking paper (see below for instructions).
  12. Once the cake is cold, sprinkle the powder sugar on top and decorate with the chocolate trees and year numbers.
This is how you prepare the ingredients:

This is how your cake should look like after baking:

Melt the chocolate and pour it into the pipette.

This is how you make the pipette, don't over fill it!

This is how you draw the trees and year numbers:

Don't turn the cake upside down, you need the risen part to create the snowed mountain effect :)
