Grandma's cool and smooth dessert

Summers is Greece are hot, and my grandma always new how to cool us down with this delicious fridge cake :)

It will take you about 30 minutes to prepare and it needs about another 30 minutes in the fridge.

Grandma's cool and smooth dessert

  • 1 pack of jelly powder in strawberry flavor
  • 500 ml water
  • 1 table spoon sugar (optional)
  • 500 ml milk
  • 35 gr custard mix
  • 35 gr sugar
  • 1 vanilla
  • lady fingers bisquits

instructions
  1. Make half of the water warm but don't let it boil.
  2. Dissolve the jelly powder in the warm milk with a whisker.
  3. Add the sugar and whisk until dissolve.
  4. Take away from the fire.
  5. Pour the rest of the water in the mix and whisk.
  6. Pour is a clean Tupperware and put in the fridge for about 15 min.
  7. In the meanwhile prepare the custard.
  8. Bring 400 ml of milk to boil.
  9. Disolve the custard, sugar and vanilla in the rest 100 ml milk, using a whisker.
  10. Lay down the lady fingers, sugar coated upwards.
  11. Pour the warm custard on top of the ladyfingers and put in the fridge.
  12. When the jelly is wobbly, but not done, take out of the fridge.
  13. Pour slowly on top of the custard.
  14. You can optionally add fresh strawberries, or any other fruit you like in the jelly.
  15. Wait for another 30
  16. minutes, and it is ready to serve!

It is better to dissolve the jelly powder in half of the water, while boiling and add the rest cold, to speed up the binding process.

The custard doesn't need to be too thick, the ladyfingers will soak and make it thicker while in the fridge.

Lie the ladyfingers tight to each other, to make a firm bottoms for your dessert.

Pour the custard slowly and evenly over the ladyfingers.

When the jelly is wobbly, but not yet firm, it is ready to pour over the custard.

If the custard is still warm, no worries, the jelly will melt and become more even.

In this case the appearance doesn't represent the smooth and cool taste ;)
